Gone But Not Forgotten

A Tribute to a Cork Landmark

Built in 1877, The Sextant stood as a beloved cornerstone of Leeside’s docklands, serving generations of sailors, dock workers, and locals. A staple for those from Dunlop and Ford, it was more than just a pub—it was a place where friendships were forged, laughter echoed, and memories were made.

Then, almost overnight, it was gone. The sudden loss of The Sextant sent shockwaves through Cork, leaving a void in the hearts of many who had once gathered within its walls. This painting is my tribute to those fond memories—of visiting, feeling welcomed, and knowing it was always a place to meet old friends and make new ones.

Created over three years (2022–2025), this acrylic on board piece blends various images to capture the spirit of The Sextant. At 60cm (H) x 84cm (W), it stands as a reminder that in Cork, “you don’t know what you’re missing until it’s gone.”

I can only hope this painting does justice to the people who frequented The Sextant and the stories it holds.
