Pure Cork Monoprint

Print Description

“Pure Cork Monoprint” is a unique piece that encapsulates the heart and soul of Cork City, Ireland. Developed under the expert guidance of Cork artist Aoife Claffey, this monoprint is the culmination of Onóir’s numerous studies and drawings capturing the city’s iconic elements. Created using lino ink on delicate yet resilient Japanese paper, it brings together a symphony of Cork’s essence into a single, compelling image.

The artwork features a detailed depiction of St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral, a symbol of Cork’s rich history and architectural grandeur. In the background, the charming buildings of St. Patrick’s Quay, dating back to the early 19th century, provide a glimpse into the city’s past. Adding a touch of local nostalgia, the iconic Echo Boy from Cork’s beloved Echo newspaper is incorporated into the design, bridging the city’s heritage with its contemporary identity.

The choice of Japanese paper, renowned for its lightness and strength, allowed for a beautiful layering effect. The print is thoughtfully placed on a page from the Echo newspaper, further grounding the artwork in Cork’s cultural landscape.
